Trevor Millar – A Tribute

Many of us were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden and untimely death of Trevor Millar while on holiday in Perth, Australia.
Trevor and his wife, Pat, were visiting relatives in Australia with the intention of then moving to New Zealand where his sister Reba lives. It was to have been a two month trip largely to recognise a special birthday for Pat.
Trevor, brother of our good friends and club members, Jimmy, Syd and Audrey, emigrated to South Africa in the mid-sixties and, apart from brief spells in England and back in his native town, lived and carved out a successful business career in that country.
He was a past pupil of Ballymena Academy, where he played for the first fifteen, and was a past player of Ballymena RFC where he also played for the senior side.
Trevor always had a particular fondness for and pride in Ballymena RFC and had an encyclopaedic knowledge of its history much of which was gleaned in his schoolboy years as he accompanied big brother Syd on most Saturdays.
He often extolled the virtues of those who helped create the Club’s rich heritage and would recount stories and events involving men like Sam Anderson, Paddy Owens, Bill Carson and many others.
Those of us who knew Trevor will recall his wonderful sense of humour, his friendliness and his generosity. He was someone who made all in his company feel better. When he laughed we all laughed with him.
Trevor made friends wherever he went and those same friends are deeply saddened by the news of his death in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Pat, daughters Caroline and Mandy, his brothers and sisters and all in his extended family.
May he rest in peace.
