Welcome to Ballymena RFC @ Eaton Park – Est 1887

On Saturday 13 April, after a somewhat disappointing season, Ballymena 1XV had the chance to secure some silverware and to end their season on a high in the Ulster Senior Shield Final against Clogher Valley.

From the off, Clogher Valley looked to be the hungrier side and opened the scoring from a close range maul try.

Ballymena responded with a maul try of their own, with Connor Smyth to bring the scores back to 7-5.

The next two tries came from the visitors. After Ballymena were penalised on the half way line, Clogher took a quick tap penalty and many of the Ballymena team being slow to react, found a gap in the middle to go through for an easy try.

Following this, a Ballymena error from a dropped ball in midfield, allowed Clogher to capitalise with the ball moving out wide for another run in.

Adam Lamont managed to cross the line with a powerful carry before the visitors went over for their fourth try just before half time, leaving the half time score at 26-10.

Ballymena came out with a more determined attitude in the second half and outscored their opponents by two tries to one in the second half. But despite their best efforts, Clogher Valley held on to win the game by 31 points to 22.
