Ballymena, Coleraine, Cooke and Rainey combine played their first round cup draw against Cavan/ Monaghan combined on Sunday at Eaton Park. The weather was perfect for spectating but maybe a little bit sunny for catching a high ball.
CM started very strongly forcing the BCCR players to defend their try line for a long period. The home team soaked up the pressure well then managed make their way back into the opposition’s half and apply some pressure of their own. Their hard work paid off with 4 converted tries in the first half. A mix of nice team tries and a couple of individual efforts scored by Lucy Logan (2 tries) , Amy McConkey and Eva Draycott. All converted by Luighseach Murnaghan. The second half saw CM stage a comeback. They had BCCR camped out on their own try line with period of sustained pressure that rewarded them with a try in the corner. BCCR managed to deal with renewed pressure, a turnover gave Luighseach Murnaghan the opportunity to run in a long distance effort which she also converted. Lucy Logan finished off the day getting her hat-trick, forwards and backs combing well with Lucy stepping both winger and fullback to finish a great try.
Final score 45-5. A competative game that was much closer at times than the score suggests. Thanks to everyone at Ballymena for a great day.
