Ballymena U18 29 – 12 Ballymoney U18s

Monday evening say Ballymena U18s play Ballymoney U18s in a catch up league game under lights at Eaton Park.  The home side were on a good run of form and keen to consolidate their place at the top of the league table against Ballymoney.

Ballymena started strongly against an underpowered Ballymoney side but content infringements at the breakdown cost them territory and possession.

It took 20 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, the McSparren brothers combining following a free flowing backs move to see winger Aidy McSparren cross the whitewash.

Minutes later Ballymena’s other winger Daniel Kelly took advantage for slick hands from Zach Carmichael and Tiarnan Heggarty to evade a scrambling defence and touch down in the corner to take the score to 12-0.

Aidan McSparren scored again before the half time whistle finishing off a thrilling backs move which followed stolen Ballymoney lineout ball, score 17-0 at half time.

The second half started well for the home side with Timmy Carson powering over the line from close range after a lineout driving maul.  However Ballymoney dominated possession and territory from there on in, and deservedly scored 2 tries as the home side looked weary and out of ideas.  In a stop start second half full of errors Ballymoney continued to have the upper hand over the Braidmen but with the score 22-12 to Ballymena and with 5 minutes of the game to go a late Timmy Carson try on the final whistle made the final score look more generous that in could have been to the home team at 29-12 to Ballymena.
