This Saturday the 29th March Ballymena RFC Under 14 boys squad will be playing in the final of the Ulster Rugby U14 Provincial bowl competition. The boys have had a successful season finishing 3rd in the Provincial North league and narrowly missing out in taking part in the League Cup play offs so when the cup competition came along they were determined to try and get a good run in the competition. Unfortunately in the first round they drew Cavan RFC away, who are one of the favourites, and suffered defeat but this mean’t that the boys were now in the Bowl competition.
In the first round Ballymena accounted for Finn Valley to set up a tricky encounter at home under floodlights against near neighbours Coleraine. However the boys came through this match victorious winning 36 – 14. In the next round and semi-final Ballymena played much better rugby to beat a strong Instonians team away from home with the scoreline of 38 – 7.
So the scene is set for Ballymena RFC U14 boys to take on Monaghan RFC this Saturday the 29th at Meadowbank Sports Arena K.O. 10 30am in the final. The team and coaches don’t underestimate the challenge posed by Monaghan but the whole squad been training diligently over the past number of weeks and with lots of support from the touchline from parents and friends, the boys believe that they can bring the cup back to Ballymena!
