Welcome to Ballymena RFC @ Eaton Park – Est 1887

The Ballymena Senior WXV visited Belfast Harlequins WXV in an away league fixture on Sunday 16/02.
Ballymena had a lot of possession in the opening stages, spending significant time in the Harlequins’ 22. Despite this dominance, the visitors were unable to convert their pressure into points, thanks to a resolute defensive effort from Harlequins.

Belfast Harlequins capitalized on Ballymena’s missed opportunities, scoring two tries in the first half, both of which came from turnovers in Harlequins’ 22 and using their pace out wide to run in the tries. The first half ended 12-0.

The second half saw more of the same from Ballymena, who again spent large spells in Harlequins’ 22. However, the visitors’ failure to finish off key attacking moves saw them thwarted time and again by the hosts’ defence and some mistakes in the wet and sloppy conditions.

Harlequins managed to score again within the first 20 minutes of the second half, but Ballymena did manage to score a try through Sapphire, who keeps her scoring streak alive, by applying serious pressure and strong hard pick and go’s by the forwards on Harlequins 5m line.

Despite the dominance in possession from Ballymena, it was Harlequins who came away victorious with a 17-5 win.

Many thanks to Belfast Harlequins for a physical match, to the referee, our supporters and our sponsors. We are very grateful for your continuous support.

No game for the WXV this weekend but the next league game is a home fixture vs Virgina on 2nd March, so come and show your support for the Ballymena WXV.
