Ballymena under 18s marched into the Ulster league final last Saturday with a 36-0 home win against Strabane.
The Ballymena side had qualified for the league play offs by finishing second in their league and beating Malone away in the quarter finals to earn a home semi final v Strabane.
The Braidmen, led by captain James Lynn, didn’t take a backward step as they overcame the visitors to Eaton Park on Saturday. Early pressure from the homeside led to Strabane conceding a penalty which Sam Craig guided through the posts to open the score at 3-0.
Centre Harry Morgan added to the lead on 20 minutes following a well worked line out move which opened up a determined Strabane defence.
The home side continued to press and wing Harry Young will feel himself unlucky to have a try chalked off, but teammate Tyrese Dunlop crossed the whitewash 3 minutes later to make the score 15-0.
The lead was further stretched before half time by fly half Alfie Logan who finished following some attractive handling making the score 22-0 at half time.
The second half was a more open affair with a dogged Strabane side determined to make an impression on the game but Tyrese Dunlop powered over the line again following a move off the back of a scrum to stretch Ballymena’s lead.
Adam Walsh scored another try 3 minutes from time to make the final score 36-0. The Braidmen will now face Armagh in the final at Meadowbank Arena on 22 February.
