On Sunday Ballymena’s Senior Women made the trek to Judges Road to face City of Derry.
With driving winds throughout, the conditions didn’t kend themselves to exciting, open rugby. This didn’t stop both teams from getting stuck into eachother from the first whistle.
City of Derry’s experience proved to be the biggest difference between the two sides, with them managing to capitalise on Ballymena’s errors and go into halftime 15-0 up.
Ballymena struggled to keep up with City of Derry’s relentless work at the breakdown, leading to the ball being stolen several times. On the other hand, the Ballymena scrum is turning into a serious weapon for the team, managing to get several strong drives against an experienced scrum in City of Derry.
While the score finished 27-0 to City of Derry, there was much good to be taken from how the team stuck together, and also how they adapted to both new positions and the adverse conditions.
The next fixture is Ophir in the first round of the Suzanne Fleming Cup on Sunday
