Welcome to Ballymena RFC @ Eaton Park – Est 1887

Ballymena 15 – 10 Randalstown

The senior squad had their second match of Championship A, facing an experienced Randalstown team at Eaton Park.

Aiming to make right the loss against Lisburn last week, the girls took no time in imposing themselves on the game, with some very physical exchanges in the early minutes. Randalstown eventually relented under the pressure and Ballymena got their first try, scored by a barrelling Sarah Campbell. The physicality didn’t let up at any point in the first half, with both sides taking turns in dishing out hard carries and tackles. The first half would end 5-0 to Ballymena.

The second half saw Randalstown begin with a new-found intensity, and Ballymena had some work to do to prevent their slender lead from slipping. A second try came after some scrappy exchanges in the Randalstown 22, eventually being scored by player-coach Sapphire.

Randalstown pounced on Ballymena’s mistake at the ruck to score their first try, bringing the score to 10-5. With the pressure on, Ballymena’s third and final try came off some quick thinking off the back of a lineout. After the throw didn’t find its target, Sarah Campbell once again charged over the line from 10 metres out, carrying several would-be tacklers with her.

Randalstown got their second score in the last play of the game. After building the phases, and playing some great rugby, they moved the ball wide to score in the corner.

Great work from all the players, and best wishes to Randalstown for the rest of their season. The girls face City Of Derry away on Sunday 20th October.
