Ballymena 33 – 12 Banbridge
Ballymena emerged victorious in their match against Banbridge, demonstrating strong attacking play and solid defence, which secured them a 33-12 win at home.
The game began with both teams testing each other’s defences, but it was Ballymena who struck first. In the 20th minute, Ballymena’s McIlroy powered over the line to open the scoring. Five minutes later, Ballymena doubled their lead when Smyth broke through Banbridge’s defensive line and scored, extending their advantage to 14-0 after successful conversions.
The home side continued to dominate, and Munce added another try in the 30th minute, showcasing Ballymena’s fluid passing and strong running game. Banbridge managed to respond five minutes later with a try of their own, exploiting a cross-field kick to outmanoeuvre Ballymena’s defence and get on the scoreboard.
As halftime approached, Ballymena’s momentum was relentless. Coleman crossed over right before the break, securing a commanding 28-5 lead for Ballymena at halftime.
In the second half, the game was more balanced as Banbridge sought to claw their way back. Ballymena’s defence held firm for the most part, but Banbridge was awarded a penalty try in the 70th minute following a powerful driving maul, reducing the deficit to 28-12.
However, Ballymena were quick to extinguish any hopes of a Banbridge comeback. Munce sealed the game with his second try of the match, completing a dominant performance from Ballymena with a final score of 33-12.
